Lower Back Slippage

Lower back slippage occurs when the vertebra above slips forward over the vertebra below. The slippage of the L4 vertebra over the L5 vertebra is a common cause of lower back slippage related to aging and wear (figure 1). "Narrow canal" is frequently linked to lower back slippage. Lower back slippage is prevalent in children and people over the age of 40.

What are the symptoms of a slipping lower back?

Lower back and hip pain are main symptoms in patients with lower back slippage. When bending forward, the pain becomes more severe, and when bending backwards, the agony becomes more severe. These people frequently have lower back pain when walking and may need to halt. Lower back slippage is characterized by cramps that occur when standing for lengthy periods of time or in the nights.

What is the procedure for diagnosing lower back slippage?

The first step is to see a doctor. A bad spine therapy might have disastrous results. During the physical examination, your doctor may order an MRI or use dynamic X-rays to make the diagnosis (bending forward and backward, etc.). The presence of vertebral slippage, as well as its magnitude, can be detected by MRI examinations in various places.

What are the nonsurgical treatments in lower back slippage?

Patients with lower back slippage receive medicinal therapy before undergoing surgery. The degree of the discomfort and the amount of spinal slippage are important factors in this case. The doctor may advise the patient to reduce the number of activities he or she does on a daily basis. It may be beneficial to rest the lower back. When a lower back brace is required, your doctor will advise you. The lower back brace may help in the reduction of pain and elimination of spasms. Injections into the lower back, often known as steroid injections, are also performed. However, injections do not give a permanent remedy.

What physical treatments are available for lower back slippage?

Your doctor will devise a rehabilitation plan for you which will strengthen your lower back muscles. These workouts will also extend your hip muscles, which become short and tight. The objective is to strengthen and stabilize your slipped vertebra. During this period, you should be under the care of a doctor.
